Mobile Pathways Launches Immigration Papers Reader, Powered by Claude

Every immigrant is entitled to understand the legal process that will decide their future. Yet the papers behind it, from the Notice to Appear to a FOIA record, arrive in dense legal language with unforgiving deadlines. A missed hearing can mean a deportation in absentia. A missed filing deadline can foreclose asylum. That's why five new organizations join Pathfinder AIDE weekly, relying on its instant alerts anytime a case changes.

Because most immigrants cannot afford or find an attorney, the first person to make sense of those papers is rarely an experienced lawyer. That means we must equip legal aid workers, accredited representatives, and frontline immigration nonprofits, who already carry far more cases than they should, to help as many people as they can.

That is why we are proud to announce that Mobile Pathways is launching Immigration Papers Reader with Anthropic's Claude for Legal launch. Immigration Papers Reader is a free tool, now available to every Claude user, built for the legal aid workers and nonprofits on the front lines of immigration.

How it Started

Our partnership with Anthropic began with an invitation we did not expect. After reading about Mobile Pathways and our immigration court data in The Economist's briefing on deportations, Mark Pike, Associate General Counsel at Anthropic and the creator of Claude for Legal, reached out to explore how we might work together. He recognized what our partners have long understood: Mobile Pathways sits at the intersection of immigration law, data, and artificial intelligence, and we have spent years learning how to put all three to work for people who would otherwise face the system alone.

‍

A Natural Fit

The partnership required no leap of faith on our part. Claude already powers our technology, including Pathfinder AIDE, our platform for making immigration data actionable for everyone, and we rely on it every day. Working directly with the team that builds it was the natural next step.

It also demonstrated what a small, mission-driven team can accomplish. When the opportunity arose, we moved quickly. Our mission is actionable immigration data for everyone, and we knew Immigration Papers Reader would be a logical extension of what we were already building with Pathfinder AIDE.

‍

To keep our launch moving quickly, I teamed up with former Immigration Judge Elizabeth Young to develop a tool we both knew would be enormously helpful to legal aid workers nationwide.

From a Pile of Papers to a Plan

Consider what happens when an immigrant client first walks into a legal aid office. They often arrive with a stack of notices, court records, and FOIA responses, some of it incomplete and much of it in a language they do not understand. Before anyone can offer meaningful help, someone has to read and digest all of it, and that review can consume hours that a busy advocate simply does not have.

Immigration Papers Reader performs that first review in seconds, so legal aid workers can turn sooner to the questions that matter and serve more families. It is useful on its own, and more powerful still alongside Pathfinder AIDE.

In practice, it does the following with a client's papers:

  • Reads every page of notices, FOIA responses, and court records, from photos or PDFs.
  • Pulls out the dates that matter, soonest first, each linked to the page it came from and ready to add to a calendar.
  • Flags what's missing from the file.
  • Explains the case in plain words for a child, a teen, a family, an advocate, or an attorney, in the client's language.
  • Drafts common motions, like a motion to continue, for an attorney to review.
  • Removes personal details before reading, if you choose.

Scaling Access to Justice

It has been one of the great honors of Mobile Pathways' short history to work alongside one of the world's leading AI companies toward a goal we share: ensuring that everyone has access to justice. That is the promise of Claude for Legal, and it is why we said yes.

Access to justice is a core pillar of our work. The demand for immigration legal help far exceeds the number of people qualified to provide it, and every hour we return to a legal aid worker is an hour they can spend with another family.

I am incredibly proud of what our nimble team accomplished in so short a time, all while in the middle of launching one of the biggest products in our history.
