If we're going to make access to justice a reality for all immigrants, we need to turn law from an abstraction into something that every person can understand, use, and shape. Before the pandemic, I dedicated nights and weekends doing just that on the U.S. and Mexico border. I'd grab a box to stand on and a bullhorn so I could shout the law to the thousands of refugees trapped at the border due to the profoundly unfair "Remain in Mexico" protocols.

These sketches of justice were called “Charlas,” and I became known as “La Abogada.” As the pandemic froze our ability to travel, our “Charlas” became virtual. Thanks to your support, we enlisted vetted immigration attorneys to record free informational videos to provide legal information for refugees, asylum seekers, and undocumented immigrants.

Because of the innovative Mobile Pathways texting platform, these videos were shared around the country, getting viewed over 25,000 times.

Thanks to your support of Charlas, we can honor the dignity of everyone by ensuring our laws are easily accessible and clear to understand.
